The "One day old" virgin

I am currently digging in to another very unusual Pinoy delicacy. It's called a one day old chicken!

These are newly hatched chicks who didn't even see the light of day since they were immediately killed and then sold to the streets as deep fried pulutans.

Another one is the Kwek Kwek na balot. Most of us here are already familiar with the Kwek Kwek (Boiled chicken egg marinaded in orange thick flour paste) Then deep fried to
get the texture that of an Okoy. Well the difference is that instead of chicken eggs, balot or duck eggs were used.

This is my first time to eat em'. I pass by the stalls that sell these kinds of food in the LRT station everyday but can't find time (or balls) to try em out.

Well, So far so good. The one day old tastes like frog legs. Only a bit bonier. The Balot is good with vinegar.

Bon apetite!
